YOU PEOPLE AND YOUR DISTRACTIONS!
Here's my list!(Ones marked with a Ω all exist within the same alternate universe.)
1. The vacuum of time. (The Keres/Thanatos)
2. Terror in the night. (The Keres & The Fates)
3. Flashes of euphoria. (Set/Nephthys)
Sometimes they just managed to get it all so right. There were fights and complications and times that they made each other so angry and so hurt that it seemed like the whole world would come caving in all around them. One of them would be ready to say something cruel, something to make the whole madness stop, but in the end it all came down to those moments, those perfect moments when they looked at each other and knew that this life, even with all the pain it could hold, was the only one worth living. Those moments of perfection they found within each other was worth giving up everything for.
4. Dancing with the devil. (Mark/Ate)
It all fell apart too quickly for Ate. Her husband, the man who'd proposed on that glorious night of bloodshed, was pulling away from her and Ate wasn't really for it. It made her violent - more than usual - and angry.
5. Fatal accident.
The bombs fell and the Gods died.
6. Haunting melody. (Hathor/Sekhmet)
They don't need light to find each other. In the darkness Hathor hears her mirror-self like a song in her heart, and when they touch, fingers seeing what eyes cannot, that song only grows stronger.
7. Black ice. Klymene/Aidan
8. Breathtaking reality. (Natalie/Veronica)
9. Sensation of loss. (Demeter/Poseidon)
She never though about it anymore, but long ago it used to constantly come to her on dark nights:
10. Shooting star. (Lucifer/Charity)
"Oh! There! Did you see it?"
11. Broken spirit. (Achilles/Briseis re: Doom Team)
She met his eyes and found someone else behind them, no longer the lion but now a beast without anything but pain to give.
12. Aurora Borealis. Aidan/Jade
13. Left behind. (Hades/Minthe)
Forgotten and left behind, but Minthe would never let him forget the face that he'd once loved.
14. Unguarded touch. (Achilles/Briseis)
She sees him like no others do, even now. The helpless slave girl could read Achilles in time and it surprises Briseis that she hasn't lost that ability, despite the centuries that have passed.
15. Last time. (Demeter/Poseidon Ω)
With Poseidon down between her thighs, Demeter gripped the edges of her throne, bucking against him and attempting to keep her cries quiet. Outside the room there were people waiting to hear the verdict between the two Gods who controlled so much of their lives. They didn't know that these treaty meetings were spent with two enemies fucking.
16. Dying sun. (Cara Ω)
Just run, Set had told her, kissing her for the last time. I can't protect you anymore.
17. Devastating explosion.
18. Alone in a crowd. (Osiris/Nephthys)
Their apartment overlooks the Hudson River but it makes them both miss the Nile.
19. Fragmented truths. Pandora/Prometheus
Do you love me?
20. Gaping chasm. Klymene/Aidan
21. Arise from the ashes. (Phoenix)
I open newborn eyes and then blink against the sunlight, blinding to this unprepared body. In bird form I burn and in bird form it is that I rise once more, resting here in the ashes of my pyre while I regain the strength to transform, to take on a new shape to fit in amongst the humans.
22. The end of the beginning. (Demeter/Poseidon)
I love you, was what he said to her on the shore that day, and while it was the first time he'd spoken those words it wasn't the first time Demeter had known it. For years that quite desire for her had been building and Demeter had tried, like the loving sister she was, to turn it away from her gently.
23. Remember me. (Patroclus/Briseis)
A Chicago bar in 1978 and a man comes to chat her up. She puts up with him for longer than she usually would and she lets those words of his woo her because she's lonely. His smile reminds Briseis of a man who once promised her such kind things when she entered the hands of a soldier.
24. Flash of lightning. (Hecate/Demeter)
25. Emergency evacuation. (Hades/Demeter Ω)
It pained Demeter to have to make any sort of deal with Hades, but it was clear that their youngest brother was more of a threat to the people of this land than they'd thought before. Perhaps it was that he'd lost his hold over all of them, that they no longer accepted him as king. Perhaps he was just in a bad mood because he was Zeus. Either way the people were paying and a deal was struck between the Queen of Life and King of Death. She would shield those he ruled from the eyes and hands of Zeus until things cooled.
26. Immortal laughter. (Anthony & Agatha)
Sometimes things become so hard, but sometimes it makes it easier just having someone who'll take her hand in the darkness or hold her close when she cries. Sometimes things are okay if she can just get to him and laugh about how ridiculous the whole world has become.
27. A whisper on the wind.
28. Electrifying sacrifice. (Huitzi/Mary)
29. The calm before the storm. (Nephthys/Set)
They consider him to be the fire, the burning desert and the terrifying storms, and they see Nephthys only as the wife, the quiet rolling breezes to his whirlwinds. They don't know what it's like after night falls and it's just the two of them, when she wraps delicate fingers around his throat and forces him to his knees before her. When she holds all the power and, with a kiss, draws out the pain that brings them both to ecstasy.
30. A life of lies. (Apate/Ate)
Ate loved the way that Apate could spin her words, loved that she could walk into anywhere using only that silver tongue of hers. Ate would never admit that Apate was so much better at it, even though they both knew she always would be.
31. The winds of change.
32. The hand of fate. (Achilles/Briseis)
When Briseis had been a young girl, she had believed so strongly in fate and the will of the Gods. When her city had been sacked and her family murdered, she had prayed desperately for Artemis to intervene for her, to rescue her from the fate that was about to befall her.
33. Desperate plea. (Achilles/Briseis)
34. Nightmare. (Set/Briseis)
He leans across her in the bed and touches her shoulder, and Briseis makes a small noise of fear before opening her eyes.
35. Whitewashed walls.(Pandora/Prometheus)</b>
He tries not to watch the rise and fall of her side as she sleeps in the bed beside him, or the way the blankets have fallen to her knees, her night gown riding up around revealing the creamy skin of her thigh. He tries not to notice the way her blonde hair forms into tiny curls at the nape of her neck, or think about how much he wants to kiss her right there. He tries not to imagine the way she'd draw a contented breath, or to remember how she'd felt that Valentine's Day when they'd spent hours and hours bringing each other to the brink of pleasure.
36. Caught in the act. (Shesmu/Sekhmet)
The fact that her parent's are divorced she can deal with. (The fact that they're Gods is a non-issue it's such old news.) What she cannot and will not deal with is coming home from her dance class to find the two of them going at it on the kitchen table!
37. Wake up, the day is dying. (Hathor/Sekhmet/Ra)
"My love," Hathor whispers, wanting to wake Sekhmet but also loving the look of her when she was asleep. There was a strange innocence there. She kisses Sekhmet on the cheek and the lioness stirs, dark eyes fixing upon her.
38. Close your eyes. (Set/Nephthys)
"Close your eyes," he tells her and Nephthys does. "Do you hear it?"
39. Beyond the horizon. (Hades/Demeter Ω)
In the Southern borders of Thesmia the children would play games with each other where they would go to the edge of the land ruled by the Earth Queen and step a foot across the border, placing themselves just for a moment in the land of Chthonia. It was a game of daring and escape that parents chided them not to play, because the Gods were fickle and cruel and who knew what they'd do?
40. Finality. Greta/Skoll
41. Releasing the sparrow.
42. Something's out there. Hati/Greta
Greta turned her face to him and in the darkness they were pressed close. "What is it?" she whispered, eyes still in the direction that he'd indicated.
43. Golden miracle. (Sekhmet/Shesmu/Baby)
44. I covet you. (Shesmu/Sekhmet)
They were both animals and their claws were sharp. Even if it wasn't war there was still a violence between the two of them as they got rid of the layers of clothing, growling in the back of their throats as though they really were still lions.
45. The eye of the storm. (Ariel/Kymopoleia)
46. Screaming silence. (Hades/Makaria)
47. Her body was found... Greta/Skoll
48. I used to remember you. (Achilles/Briseis re: Doom Team)
You betrayed us, was all that she ever said, and the sound of the door slamming behind her was louder than anything else.
49. Gasping confession. (Huitzi/Mary)
50. Betrayal. (Demeter/Poseidon)
Why are you doing this? Demeter had screamed, but Poseidon had already made the choice that would destroy them both.
51. Uncontrollable wrath. War/Famine
52. Dragon of shadow.
53. Natural disaster. (Hades/Demeter Ω)
54. Leap of faith. (Osiris and Cara)
Think of Duat, Osiris has said to her.
55. Faceless and nameless.
56. Harsh revelation. (Aphrodite/Heph)
Aphrodite watched him across the forge and hated him for existing. Somewhere out there, on Greek battlefields, was a man who she desired and had been stolen away from. She was stuck for eternity with this blacksmith instead.
57. A path to follow. (Set/Nephthys)
"I told you," Nephthys said when she arrived at his door, her hair and clothes drenched from the rain. "I told you that I'd always find you."
58. The power of goodbye. (Achilles/Briseis)
Her locks were gone, burned up with him, but her beauty had only even brought her pain anyway. Only Achilles had ever seen more in her that those golden waves.
58. The power of goodbye. (Ate/George)
"You know," Ate said thoughtfully as she tapped her toe at the charred remnants of what had once been Saint George. "In hindsight, maybe fighting dragons with hugs wasn't our best idea..."
59. Through a child's eyes. (Alcohol/tiny!Absinthe)
Absinthe delighted in her touch the first time she saw what it did and it didn't matter that she couldn't quite understand it. For now she thrilled at the intoxication with all the joy only a child could possess and Alcohol watched on like the proud mother she was.
60. One final look back. (Natalie/Baron)
Natalie knew how to slam a door. She knew exactly how to cut him down with her words, and she knew a decade of whispered secrets in the darkness and how to make them hurt him. She knew how to ignore that look in his eyes when she twisted truth with lies, but when she left their apartment what she didn't know was if she'd ever go back.
61. Crumbling heart. (Nephthys)
No room is lonelier than one he doesn't inhabit, except perhaps for the rooms that find them together but so desperately apart.
62. Ignored instinct. (Hati/Greta)
Each breath came ragged now and she could feel the heart in her chest slowing even as she watched Hati leaning over her, blood across his mouth. Her blood. She could feel his hands inside her as he reached for the choicest organs, tasting her now in a way she'd always known her would.
63. Seductive danger. (Tlaz/Quetz)
To suggest that the Feathered Serpent should have known better would have been to suggest that Tlazolteotl was not exactly what she was.
64. Jumbled truths. Clio/Zeus
65. Shallow grave.
66. Why they call it falling. (Lucifer/Eisheth)
The Morning Star had been so beautiful and so beloved and when he spoke there was always a truth there. Eisheth Zenunim had not been seduced away from the light of God by him; he had simply spoken the words her heart already knew.
68. Dying land. (Demeter)
Demeter had been betrayed by all three of her brothers, liars and deceivers that they were. Two had plotted to take her daughter, her most beloved child, and the third had forced himself upon her even as she searched for Persephone.
69. A child's truth. Clio/Zeus
70. Antiseptic air. </b>(Thanatos/Lyra)</b>
Lyra's never minded the hospital smell, and she figures it's late enough and deserted enough that she's no harm in dragging Thanatos into one of the empty hospital rooms so he can pay a little extra attention to her.
71. Chained to mortality. (Lani)
At thirty-one Ailani gets married, something she always swore she'd never ever do. But she does it joyfully and her whole Egyptian family is there to see her off. But when she looks at them across the reception hall, all so beautiful and regal and eternal, she finds herself crying.
72. Dim as an ember. (Baron/Natalie)
Natalie thought he had a beautiful profile and as he slept by the light of the dying fire, she leaned over to run her finger down the length of his nose without a smile.
73. Acid tears.
74. Unexpected emptiness.
75. Miraculous relief. (Alcohol/Boho)
Dark rooms and music and smoke in the air, and Alcohol twists herself around him in sheer delight, teasing and playing with him just because she can. When she knows he needs her more than anything that's when she kisses him and let's that glory of hers run through his veins.
76. Letting go.
77. What Earth once was.
78. Frantic search.
79. Tragic moment.
80. Beneath the smiles. Demeter/Hades Ω)
81. Across the worlds. (Gen. Ω)
The borders were clear even now after so long, perhaps even more than it had been in the ancient days. The Thesmian Guards patrolled the edges of the land that belonged to Demeter and the Soldiers Pelagaeus across from them upon the land that belonged to Poseidon.
82. In the still of the night. (Aphrodite/Ares)
Aphrodite had seen Ares when he was nothing more than a child playing with his father's swords, already coming into his power but just a boy. But Aphrodite hadn't seen the war god grow up. By the time she returned to Olympus from her travels, Ares was a god in his own right. And for the first time she saw him as a man.
83. Counting years. (Euterpe/Thalia)
84. Kidnapped innocence. (Amidio/Nina)
Later when the police asked, Nina would say it was all Amidio's idea and she would hate herself for it. But Amidio was dead and gone and it was only her now. She knew that if she could just get free then the Aztecs would take care of her, but lying about her brother felt like the worst of all sins.
85. Tears of desire.
86. Ring of sunlight. (Huitzi/Mary)
In some ways Mary had always known that this day would come for them, but maybe she just hadn't expected that she would be so in love with her Hummingbird when it did.
87. Trembling cold. (Demeter/Poseidon)
In the end it was only luck. The two men had taken her to the sea and the plan was to drown her, let the sea take Demeter's body away. They had no idea that the moment they held her under Poseidon would be there, handed the sister he'd been searching so desperately for.
88. Missing planet.
89. Suffering rain.
90. Parched ego.
91. Toxic tease.
92. Horrific distortion.
93. Miracle ruin.
94. Wailing shadows.
95. Barren abyss.
96. Ravenous time.
97. Approaching doom.
98. Eternal danger.
99. Vacant arch.
100. Recoil. (Aphrodite/Heph)
The first time she has to lie with Hephaestus, Aphrodite draws away in twofold horror: because he is hideous to her and because he is her first.
101. Vehement grace. (Tiamat/Inanna)
Apart they are dangerous, but from the moment they decide to work together on this quest they become a graceful deadly machine, understanding the inner workings of pain and power better than anything else.
102. Urban legend. Clio/Zeus
103. Gentle warmth. (Achilles/Briseis)
104. Rippling tide.
105. Fallen haze.
106. That's all I ask of you.
107. Think of me.
108. A white rose. </b>(Thanatos/Lyra)</b>
109. Promise me. (Demeter/Hades/Persephone)
In the first years after her daughter had been taken, Demeter had been able to do nothing but mourn, the earth mourning along with her. But now she was ready to make a deal for the better. To Hades' kingdom she travelled, meeting him at the threshold. It was the first time she had seen him since he stole Kore away and she missed what they had once had.
110. Never let go.
111. Ghost of a rose.
112. Fire. (Jade/Prometheus)
She sits in Prometheus' chair, flicking his lighter on and off, and fuming with jealously as Aidan and Prometheus talk about their wedding plans.
113. Enchanting surrender.
114. Cowering sunrise.
116. Resisting temptation. (Lucifer/Agatha)
117. Leaves of amber. (Natalie/Antonio)
It was early Autumn and Natalie watching, laughing, from the edge of the plaza as Antonio played football with the children of the local church, the newly fallen leaves being kicked up as they all ran.
118. I remember when she loved me.
119. Heart of a child.
120. Don't scream.
121. Bereft confusion. (Ate/Mark/Glibt)
She watches that stupid wedding from her spot hidden in the trees and she doesn't rage even though she thought she would. She watches Mark say I do and it hurts too much to be angry.
122. Mysterious stranger.(Europa/Gabe)
"Go talk to her," Gabe's friend had nudged, starting to shove him in that direction. Gabe wheeled himself back around and turned his back on where the blonde across the room stood. No way was he going over there. Not towards the gorgeous woman in the gorgeous dress with the gorgeous hair. It was bad enough meeting strangers at parties, but when they were drop-dead stunning... nope. No way.
123. Subconscious reality.
124. The truth about forever. (Muses Ω)
They were all for him in Ancient Greece, his beautiful Nine, his holy daughters with songs and poems in their heart for their King father. And now that the world has changed and all is new, the Muses still sing praises for him. Neutral they had always been, and yet here they had been given a side. The Mousai who should have belonged to Apollo, their brother and leader, belonged instead only to Zeus.
125. She's burning up.
126. You were supposed to be watching her!
127. Lost soul. (Natalie/Antonio)
She showed up on his doorstep in the middle of winter in the pouring rain and Antonio gathered her up in his arms and drew her inside. He hadn't even seen Natalie in years and her sudden appearance was surprising to say the last.
128. Wandering spirit. (Asteria/Hecate)
129. Touched by an angel. (Lucifer/Eisheth)
An Angel of Prostitution and wife of Samael, Eisheth Zenunim knows the physical acts of lust. Few of the other angels had ever touched such things and so it's she who first takes the Morning Star into her bed in the depths of their new home. They are both still bloody from the final battle in Heaven and somehow that perversion, the blood of their fallen angel brethren on their skin, makes it even better.
130. Shattered reflections. (Lucifer/Charity)
"I'm ashamed of you."
131. Central power.
132. Lightning fast refusal.
133. Don't you dare. Clio/Zeus
134. Emerald eternity.
135. There will always be a monster. (Elizabeth Bathory)
They walled her up in that dark room and only when they were far away did Elizabeth weep. How could they be so cruel? How could they punish her simply for her pursuit of youth and beauty and happiness? She was a Countess; wasn't her happiness more important than some little farm girls?
136. Infinite embrace.
137. It's too late. (Baron/Natalie)
"Miss Natalie, shouldn't we be getting home?"
138. Cabin by the sea. (Ariel/Kymopoleia)
"I like this plan," Ky said, stretching out on the bed. At the window, Ariel turned around to look at the nymph, long hair getting caught around her arms as she moved. The beach just outside was empty at this hour and Ariel walked back over to straddle Ky. "Mine are always the best plans," Ariel reminded her, because the cabin had been her idea.
140. Amusingly inconsequential.
141. Ignited illusion.
142. Forsaken stealth.
143. Corrupted intrigue.
144. Kindle my soul.
145. Majestic memories. (Euterpe/Thalia)
146. Breathe, baby, breathe! (Baron/Natalie)
She'd kill him for doing this to her, but right now she couldn't even yell at him. Instead all she could do was pace the hospital corridor outside the emergency room, chewing her nails down until she drew blood, and wait.
147. Resonating hunger.
148. Relinquished radiance. (Baron/Natalie)
149. Transcendent joy. (Aphrodite/Adonis)
When Aphrodite looks back she knows that those were her happiest days, the ones she spent running through the forests with bow in hand and beautiful boy at her side.
150. Silent watcher. Jormungadnr/Hel
She's always watching when he's around other people, because even though she's his little sister she feels protective now, in this new world.
151. Her eyes believed in mysteries. (Clio/Euterpe)
152. Last breath. (Orpheus/Calliope)
Her name is forgotten and Orpheus knows this day has been coming. She's in his arms when she draws her last breath and when it escapes her body it leaves nothing behind but ash.
153. Sweet nothings.
154. Unfinished tale. (Clio/Euterpe)
"How does it end?" Euterpe whispered, safe and warm in Clio's arms despite the snow falling outside. The bedroom was silent and Clio's skin against hers was so warm.
155. Endless darkness.
156. Suffocating darkness.
157. Passing warrior. (Huitzi/Demeter AU)
158. Shield maiden. (Hippolyta/Brynhildr)
The first time they meet it's on a battlefield in France and neither has any idea what to make of the other. They circle each other like wild dogs, bloodied and not so sure.
